Is every business name on the right ABN?

If you run a trust with a corporate trustee, or more than one entity, a business name can quietly be registered to the wrong one. Nothing tells you. Enter the ABN that actually trades and the other ABNs in your group, and Komiti reads the public register and tells you in ten seconds.

This happened to us. A new business name went onto the trustee company's own ABN instead of the trust's, where the other six names sit. Nobody noticed for five weeks, and it was only found by checking the register by hand. It is an easy error to make and a hard one to see, which is exactly why it is worth checking rather than assuming.

Free. Public register data only. Nothing you enter is stored, and it needs no account.

The other half: payroll

The same idea works for payroll. Compare your pay calendar to your pay runs, and a payday that went by with no pay run shows up. We kept putting off our own payroll because payday super made every payday a chore. Absence is the signal.

If you already know you're behind, work out what you owe: every payday since the last one you did, the wages and super for each, and any super already late. It works from figures you type in, so it needs no connection.

If you'd like payroll and super dates checked every morning in Xero, that's one of the jobs we can build for small businesses. Xero limits how many businesses Komiti's software can connect, so we'll confirm on the call whether there's room. Book a free 30-minute call, or see the other free tools.
