How to check which ABN a business name is registered to

There are two ways: by hand on the public register, one ABN at a time, or all your ABNs at once with Komiti's free structure check.

By hand, on ABN Lookup

  1. Go to ABN Lookup (abr.business.gov.au) and search for one of your ABNs.
  2. On that ABN's details, find the Business name(s) section. It lists each business name registered to that ABN, with a From date.
  3. Repeat for every other ABN in your group: the trust, the trustee company, any holding company or old entity.
  4. Compare. Any business name sitting on an ABN other than the one that actually trades under it is worth raising with your accountant.

It works, but it's slow with several ABNs, and it only tells you about today.

All at once, with Komiti

Enter the ABN of the entity that actually trades (for a trust, the trust's ABN) and up to six other ABNs in the group. Komiti reads the same public register and lists every business name registered to a different ABN from the trading one, in one go. No account, and nothing you enter is stored.

To hear about changes, turn on the free monthly watch. Each month it re-reads the register and emails you only when a business name moves, appears or disappears, or an ABN's status changes (for example, cancelled). If the register can't be read one month, it says nothing rather than guessing.

Questions

Is the register public?
Yes. ABN Lookup is the public ABN register, and it's what Komiti reads.
What does the monthly watch keep?
Your email address, the ABNs you entered and the last register reading. Stopping the watch is one click from any email it sends and deletes all three.
Does Komiti use cookies?
komiti.ai sets no cookies for visitors. The only cookie is a sign-in cookie, and only if you sign in to an account. Usage is counted as daily totals with nothing that identifies a person.
